The Best Void 3.0 Titan Build in Destiny 2 Right Now
With the release of The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen for Destiny 2, along came a huge game update with tons of weapon tweaks, new mods and perks, and weapon crafting. Perhaps the biggest change in the update, however, was Void 3.0, which updated the Void subclass to the new system introduced with Stasis in Beyond Light. In this new system players are given much greater depth and control in their build crafting, which has been a lot of fun to play around with.
With this added depth and complexity does bring extra challenge to build crafting as there's a lot more moving parts to consider if you want to make a fully-fledged build. Thankfully, if you're a Titan main like me, then I've got you covered with one of the most powerful and fun builds to use in Destiny right now. In fact, it's perfect for the new Legendary difficulty introduced in The Witch Queen campaign. I used it the whole way through and it made the experience a lot more manageable.
This guide will cover:
- Playstyle
- Subclass (abilities, Aspects, and Fragments)
- Weapons (good synergies and perks)
- Armour and Mods (stats and mods)
Playstyle
This build is centred around high survivability by making use of effects that grant Overshield or trigger health regeneration. Importantly, that doesn’t mean we’re sacrificing damage potential or offensive capability. Quite the opposite in fact! Our damage will come through high ability recharge enabling us to spam abilities left, right, and centre. By the end you will be an unstoppable dispenser of Void-light fury.
- High survivability
- Strong crowd-control
- Good single-target damage
- Incredibly fast ability recharge
If you want the roleplay ideas behind the build, just imagine Captain America mixed with Mr Torgue from Borderlands. Yes, that is a strange image to picture in your head but you’ll soon realise how accurate it is.
‘I want to be Captain Torgue!’, I hear you ask enthusiastically. Question no longer…
Subclass: The Tools of Destruction
The best place to start is with the subclass as this forms the backbone of the whole build. Firstly, this is obviously a Titan Void build so equipping that is step one, and likely you won’t be taking it off for the rest of this Season.
Keywords:
Much like Stasis, when Bungie were designing Void 3.0 they did so with a set of keywords in mind. It’s important to understand what these are and how they work since they are the main tenets of the class and will be referenced throughout. For the Void Titan there are three main keywords to get to grips with:
- Overshield - Grants a protective barrier that reduces damage taken.
- Volatile - Enemies afflicted explode after taking further damage or being defeated.
- Suppressed - Enemies are blind, unable to use their abilities or attacks, and are slowed.
Abilities:
From here it’s time to pick the basics:
- Super - Sentinel (This affords us some great damage potential when we’re in a sticky situation).
- Class Ability - Towering Barricade (Either shield works well but I prefer Towering as it provides extra protection over the Rally Barricade).
- Jump - As always this is up to personal preference but I’m a big fan of Strafe Lift for the added manoeuvrability.
- Charged Melee - Shield Throw (This gives us an excellent ranged melee ability that deals great damage and can even hit multiple enemies).
- Grenade - Suppression (There is no doubt that this is one of the best abilities in the game right now and is absolutely essential to the build).
Aspects and Fragments:
Now we get to the really interesting part - Aspects and Fragments. These function in much the same way as they do for the Stasis subclass, allowing us to significantly alter the way certain abilities function or add major benefits to them, as well as dictating how many Fragments slots we have available. These are incredibly powerful upgrades that make this build excel. The key is to pick Aspects that will be giving you as big a benefit as often as possible.
Controlled Demolition:
Our first Aspect is Controlled Demolition which makes our Void abilities apply Volatile to any enemy hit, causing them to explode upon taking further damage, damaging them and nearby enemies in the blast. Since it is activated upon hitting a target with a Void ability it is very quick and easy to apply by either lobbing a Suppression Grenade or hurling your Shield at a foe, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the light-show. Volatile is an incredibly strong effect right now that excels at dealing extra damage to tougher enemies with little effort and destroying waves of enemies before they’ve even had the time to fire a shot back at you.
To make Controlled Demolition even stronger, the second part of this Aspect grants you and any nearby allies health whenever a target explodes near you. This will happen frequently, especially in less challenging content or activities with a lot of enemies thrown your way, making staying alive a much easier task.
As a bonus, this Aspect also gives us two Fragment slots which lets us raise the power bar even higher. What’s not to love?
Bastion:
Our second Aspect is Bastion. The first half of Bastion, granting Overshield to nearby allies upon casting your Super, is not all that glamorous and is certainly not the main reason to pick this Aspect. It’s the second part of the description that makes this Aspect a force to be reckoned with: Casting your Barricade will now grant Overshield to yourself and allies behind it, while also slowly regenerating the Overshield charge for as long as you are standing behind it.
The description of ‘bunkering behind it’ is a little misleading as it sounds like you will be hiding behind your Barricade, playing defensively. Rather, the benefits apply to a small area behind your Barricade, not simply directly behind it, meaning you can take a few paces back or to the side and still receive the benefits.
Bastion is the central pillar of this build because it allows us to effectively grant ourselves an extra health bar on command, so long as we have our Class Ability (we’ll get back to ability charge time). With Overshield we manifest the true spirit of Titans and turn ourselves into a tank, capable of high survivability without sacrificing offensive capability.
The benefits that Bastion provides easily outweighs the measly one Fragment slot it grants us, particularly as Controlled Demolition is already giving us two Fragment slots to play around with.
Echo of Expulsion:
Our first Fragment is Echo of Expulsion, giving our Void ability final blows an added explosion. This Fragment paired with Controlled Demolition packs quite the punch and certainly provides quite the Void light-show. The additional +10 Intellect (one full tier increase) it provides is also a nice added bonus towards Super recharge rate.
What more needs to be said? It does what is says on the tin.
Echo of Exchange:
Coming in at second place, though no less useful (quite the opposite actually), is Echo of Exchange. This Fragment provides grenade energy on melee final blows. This helps fuel our ability loop since our Shield Throw (alongside applying Volatile to enemies it hits), will now also recharge our grenades whenever we get a final blow.
Echo of Leeching:
Last but not least is Echo of Leeching, which triggers health regeneration for yourself and nearby allies upon melee final blows. This once again enhances our Shield Throw significantly by giving us another avenue for survivability whenever we need it. Low on health? Use Shield Throw!
Weapons: Picks and Perks
There aren’t strictly any weapons required to make this build work. We’re not relying on any one Exotic weapon nor any specific perk to make it function. There are, however, some weapons and perks that compliment it well.
Void weapons are a good start because of a new Seasonal Mod called Volatile Flow which grants Void weapons Volatile bullets after picking up a Void Elemental Well (we’ll return to this later). The new Void SMG, Funnelweb, is an excellent pick and has quickly become many Guardian’s favourite new tool of destruction. Again, there’s no stipulation on which Void weapons so feel free to use any Void weapon you’re a fan of, or ignore it if you don’t already have a Void weapon you love.
I’ve been enjoying using Osteo Striga, the new Exotic SMG. While this specific build does not enhance its power in any way, Osteo Striga has quickly become one of the best Exotics in the game for its crowd-control capabilities and poison build-up. Outbreak Perfected is another fun and extremely potent weapon to use for the same reasons.
As for perks, this is where a little more synergy can come into play. While not required to make this build work, they can take it over that line into absurdity.
- Adrenaline Junkie is great as grenade kills instantly grant the full five stacks, increasing weapon damage by a whopping 33%.
- Demolitionist is helpful for getting grenade energy back even quicker as kills using a weapon with this perk grant 10% grenade energy (with a 3 second cooldown).
- Killing Wind is a fun perk to accelerate the chaos and turn into a raging ball of damage as weapon kills grant bonus range, mobility, and handling.
Any perks that are typically strong will be just as good as usual, such as Frenzy, Vorpal Weapon, and Heating Up.
Armour and Mods: Dressed to Impress
Armour stats and mods, along with the Exotic armour piece you wear will always have a big impact on the performance of your build. They take it from good to great with only a few small tweaks.
Exotic Armour:
First off is the Exotic armour piece for this build - Heart of Inmost Light. With this Exotic chest piece, using an ability will empower your other two abilities, making them recharge faster, deal more damage in the case of melee and grenade abilities, and strengthen your Barricade. Heart of Inmost Light is the backbone of our ability spam and damage output since it’s so simple to gain the benefit from and immediately put it to work. What’s more, the effect can stack twice if you activate an ability while the 1x effect is still active. This further increases the aforementioned bonuses. Even without any added armour mods it’s a strong and immediately noticeable boost to your power that you won’t regret using. Let the Void-light rain from the skies!
Mods:
Speaking of mods, there are some excellent choices in this category that step up the ability usage even further:
- Ashes to Assets (Helmet/Solar/3 Energy Cost) - Gain bonus Super on grenade kills.
- Grenade Kickstart (Arms/Stasis/4 Energy Cost) - When your grenade energy is fully expended, you gain grenade energy.
- Bomber (Class Item/Solar/2 Energy Cost) - Reduces grenade cooldown when using your class ability.
As you’ll no doubt see, these mods are centred around grenades, getting them back quicker, and using them to gain Super energy. It forms a very strong synergy with the Exotic, Heart of Inmost Light, and by extension with our Aspects and Fragments also.
For the remaining mods slots we’ll be utilising Elemental Wells. Picking up an Elemental Well grants ability energy to your ability with the lowest current energy, and picking up a well matching your subclass (in this case Void) grants energy to all of your abilities. These will further fuel our ability loop and enhance our damage potential while being really easy to reap the rewards from, requiring no change to our playstyle.
Spawning Elemental Wells:
- Melee Wellmaker (1 Energy Cost/Seasonal Mod) - Powered melee combatant final blows spawn Elemental Wells matching your subclass energy type.
- Elemental Armaments (2 Energy Cost) - Combatant weapon final blows with a damage type that matches your subclass element have an escalating chance to spawn an Elemental Well.
Weaponising the Elemental Wells:
- Volatile Flow (2 Energy Cost/Seasonal Mod) - Picking up a Void Elemental Well grants your Void weapons Volatile rounds.
- Font of Might (1 Energy Cost/Seasonal Mod) - Picking up an Elemental Well that matches your subclass energy type grants a temporary bonus to weapon damage of that same elemental type.
Stats:
Lastly, we have armour stats, those fun little numbers spread across six stats. These are mostly up to personal preference so feel free to play around with them until you’ve found what stat distribution works best for you, but here are some pointers:
- Recovery is perhaps the strongest stat in the game because it changes the speed at which your health will begin to recharge. I recommend getting this to at least 70, but I always try to go for the full 100 points if I can because it’s just that strong.
- Discipline is another stat you’ll want to focus on to keep your grenade up-time as high as possible, particularly since Suppression Grenades are incredibly strong right now for utility.
- Likewise, Strength is very helpful for recharging our Shield Throw ability which grants us Overshield and acts as a strong ‘combo’ starter.
- Lastly, Intellect can also be helpful for getting your Super back as quickly as you can. As someone who often forgets to use my Super I tend to sway more towards the previous three stats, but it is nonetheless a powerful stat to invest in.
