Is Stardew Valley Still Worth It in 2025?
The iconic farming game goes from strength to strength
Yes, Stardew Valley is still worth it this 2025 — let’s just make that clear. Every year, I always see a question pop up on Reddit. Yep, every single year. Should I buy Stardew Valley? Is SD still worth playing in [year]? Should I play Stardew Valley? And the question goes on and on and on. There’s nothing wrong with asking, of course, that’s what Reddit is for. But to set it straight, I’ll write this blog post, as Stardew Valley is one of my favorite games that I never get tired of.
Stardew Valley is timeless, so it will always be worth playing, no matter what year you’re living in. It’s a relaxing laidback farming game that allows you to live the life of a farmer. This game can be played online and offline. Just a piece of advice, if you’re going to play online, make sure you have a reliable internet service provider. Let’s begin!
Classic Gameplay
The gameplay of Stardew Valley is what makes many players keep on playing the game. If you have ever played Harvest Moon before and liked it, you will love Stardew Valley even more. I can say they are on the same level, for sure, but Harvest Moon is a larger franchise compared to SD. Okay so, going back, the gameplay.
In the game, you will have a variety of tasks to do. It’s not as simple as what you often see while TV streaming reality farming shows. Aside from farming, you also need to fish, mine, raise animals, and forage. It’s a very hands-on game that really gives you the experience of managing a farm, earning money to buy seeds, caring for farm animals, and so much more.
On top of that, you have to build your relationship with other townsfolk by talking to them and giving them gifts from your farm. During the first year, many new players might miss a lot of opportunities… unless they do some research beforehand. But no worries, that’s expected and you will still have a lot of years left in the game.
Multiplayer Option
Initially, the multiplayer feature was only available on the PC/console version. However, there was a recent update on the mobile version that allows mobile players to play multiplayer. It is still in its experimental phase, so bugs and other issues might still occur. Regardless, the multiplayer feature allows friends to play this beautiful game without any problem…well, at least for the PC/console version for now.
Here’s how it works. One person would be the host and the others would be farmhands. Everyone works on the farm, just like a team. If you’re interested in marrying, you can marry another player by giving them a wedding ring. Then, you’ll start with your married life — which is why many couples also play this game for this feature.
Just make sure that when you’re going to play multiplayer often, you have a fast internet connection like the one Metronet offers. This way, you’ll be able to fully enjoy the game without experiencing disconnects and lag. And now that the feature is coming to mobile, it’s more important for players to have a fast, stable internet connection.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been thinking about getting Stardew Valley, regardless if it’s your first time hearing about it or you have been deciding to get it or not in the past years, this is your go signal to do so. Hear me out when I say this with hundreds, if not thousands of Reddit users slash Stardew Valley players, it will be one of the best game purchases you will ever make.
